EDGCUMBE ARMS AT COTEHELE QUAY

   
The Edgcumbe Arms, with attached limekilns and warehouse GV II Inn, now teashop and offices, with attached limekilns and warehouse. Probably late C18 - early C19, with few later alterations. The Edgcumbe Arms is in slatestone rubble ; slate roof with ridge tiles and gable ends, gable end stacks with rubble shafts. Limekilns in slatestone. rubble with stone dressings. Warehouse in slatestone rubble with hipped slate roof with ridge tiles. Plan: The Edgcumbe Arms is 2-room plan, each room heated from a gable end stack, and with central entrance. The 2 bays to left, including doorway, are an addition of circa mid C19, with rear wing to left heated by a gable end stack. Range of limekilns attached at the right side, of 3 bays. To end right is the warehouse, built into the bank, with entrances to front at ground floor, at upper level at the right side and at higher level at the rear. Exterior: The Edgcumbe Arms 3 storeys and 3 windows, nearly symmetrical front, with all windows C20 casements, the central windows at first floor and second floors blind and painted in. Ground floor central gabled porch, open-fronted, with bench to side and plain inner door. Dripstone over 2 first floor windows to left, marking the added bays. Ground floor 2 slate benches attached to the wall to right. Wrought iron sign bracket at first floor to left. Left side has integral 3-storey service wing, with 3-light and 2-light casement at ground floor, three 2-light casements at first floor and second floor 2-light casement. At the rear there is a cast iron C20 external stair to an upper door. Interior: Not inspected. Limekilns 3 round arches to front with granite keystones. The limekiln is built into the bank at the rear for top loading. Inside the arches are vaults with stoke holes to rear. Warehouse 4 storeys, ground floor has large door with cambered head and keystone, first and second floors have single window with cambered arch and shutters ; 3rd floor has single window with shutters. The right side is built into the bank, with central external stair to door at first floor level, 2 single windows with shutters to right and left. Second floor has central loading door, 2 single windows to left and one to right. Same arrangement at third floor. The rear gable end has entrance at second floor level, to door with flat arc
